The Quail at Okanagan Golf Course

The Quail is 1 of 2 courses operated by Okanagan Golf Club on a shared property in the hills above Kelowna, its sister layout being The Bear — a course designed by the Nicklaus Design group that arrived with considerably more fanfare. The Quail, the older and arguably more intimate of the pair, was crafted by Graham Cooke and opened in 1999. It plays through rolling terrain shaped by the benchlands above Okanagan Lake, where the natural contours of the land — dry grassland slopes, stands of ponderosa pine, and exposed rock outcroppings — do much of the design's heavy lifting.

Kelowna sits in the heart of British Columbia's wine country, and the Okanagan Valley's semi-arid climate means firm, fast conditions through most of the summer season. Elevation changes are a defining feature of the round, and the views across the valley and lake rank among the most dramatic backdrops in Canadian golf.

The Quail is a strong test that rewards shot-shaping and course management over brute force, with several holes demanding precise placement off the tee where the terrain quickly punishes anything stray.
