Edisto Beach sits at the end of a long, winding road — deliberately remote, the kind of South Carolina Sea Island community that has resisted the resort-ification that transformed Hilton Head and Kiawah into golf destination machines. That isolation defines the character of everything here, including the golf.
The Plantation Course reflects that unhurried, coastal lowcountry personality. A par 70 layout suggests something shorter and more strategic than a bombers' track, and in the Sea Island environment that means negotiating the terrain that defines this stretch of the Atlantic coast — marshland, maritime forest, salt air, and the kind of humidity that makes a walk feel like work from June through September. The lowcountry landscape is the real design feature here, not length.
Edisto draws a loyal, local crowd rather than a destination golf tourist, and the course carries that feel of a place that belongs to the community around it. For visiting golfers, that's often the appeal — golf that connects you to where you actually are, rather than a manicured experience that could be anywhere.
