Par 60 courses often get dismissed as warm-up rounds, but Barefoot Bay Golf Course earns its place as a genuine destination for the 55+ community that surrounds it. Barefoot Bay itself is a large, unincorporated census-designated place along Florida's Treasure Coast in Brevard County — one of the state's more quietly fascinating residential communities, originally developed in the early 1970s as an affordable coastal alternative to the flashier resort enclaves farther south. The course reflects that community spirit: built for the residents, maintained by the residents, and very much a part of daily life here.
The Treasure Coast landscape is flat, warm, and subtropical, with the kind of persistent sunshine and sea breeze that makes a shorter layout genuinely enjoyable rather than merely convenient. A par 60 format typically leans heavily on par 3s and short par 4s, rewarding placement, touch around the greens, and a clean short game over raw power.
For the retirees and snowbirds who make Barefoot Bay home, this course isn't a stepping stone — it's the point.
