Daufuskie Island is one of those places that resists the modern world on principle. Accessible only by ferry from Hilton Head, this South Carolina sea island — the Georgia border runs close enough to cause the occasional address confusion — sits in the Lowcountry's saltmarsh and live-oak landscape largely unchanged in character from decades past. Getting to Haig Point is already an experience before you've pulled a club from the bag.
The club occupies a private, residential community on the island's northern end, and the Rees Jones-designed course works through a terrain of Spanish moss-draped oaks, tidal marshes, and the kind of coastal light that makes afternoon rounds feel cinematic. Jones shaped a layout that respects the land's natural drama rather than fighting it, and the routing's encounters with water and marsh demand both patience and local knowledge from first-time visitors.
Because membership and guest access are tied to property ownership and referrals, Haig Point carries the unhurried, uncrowded atmosphere of a genuinely private retreat. For golfers who find their way here, the isolation is the whole point.
