Cascade Hills Country Club has been one of Grand Rapids' most storied private clubs for nearly a century, with roots tracing back to the 1920s. The course was designed by Tom Bendelow, the prolific Scottish-American architect responsible for hundreds of layouts across the Midwest during golf's early expansion across America — a lineage that gives Cascade Hills a genuine sense of historical weight that newer courses simply cannot manufacture.
The club sits in the Cascade Township area southeast of downtown Grand Rapids, a part of western Michigan where the land rolls with the gentle but meaningful glacial contours that make for natural, unhurried routing. Tree-lined fairways, mature hardwoods, and the rhythms of a traditional members' club define the experience here — the kind of place where course knowledge and local understanding reward the regular player over time.
As a private club with a par of 71, Cascade Hills plays shorter than a regulation par 72, which tends to put a premium on precision and shot-making rather than raw power — a design sensibility very much in keeping with Bendelow's era and approach.
