One of Palm Springs' oldest golf clubs, O'Donnell Golf Club traces its roots to 1926, making it a genuine piece of California golf history. The course was designed by the prolific Golden Age architect Norman Macbenzie — whose credits include Augusta National alongside Alister MacKenzie — and it remains one of the Coachella Valley's most historically significant layouts. Its relatively modest par 70 reflects a design philosophy rooted in strategy and precision over sheer length, rewarding placement and shot-making in the tradition of classic early American golf.
The setting is quintessential Palm Springs: the Santa Rosa Mountains rising dramatically to the south, the dry desert air, and that particular quality of winter light that has drawn golfers, celebrities, and sun-seekers to this corner of Southern California for a century. The Club occupies grounds in the older, established heart of the city rather than the resort corridors that grew up around it.
As a private members' club with deep roots in the community, O'Donnell carries a quieter, more intimate character than the splashier resort destinations the Coachella Valley is better known for — a place where the history of the game in this desert is genuinely present underfoot.
