Roseau sits about as far north as Minnesota gets — a small city tucked against the Canadian border, better known for producing an outsized share of NHL players and as the hometown of Polaris snowmobiles than for its golf scene. That context matters when you pull into Oakcrest, because this is a community course in the truest sense: a place where locals squeeze every last round out of a short northern season before the lakes freeze and the sleds come out of storage.
The landscape up here is flat prairie transitioning to boreal fringe — open sky, birch and spruce stands, and the kind of uncrowded quiet that makes a round feel genuinely unhurried. A par 71 typically signals at least one fewer par 5 than a standard layout, which often means a course that rewards accuracy and course management over pure power.
Oakcrest serves the Roseau community the way a good municipal should: accessible, unpretentious, and locally owned in spirit. For travelers passing through on the way to Voyageurs country or across the border, it's worth knowing a round here is available.
