Few clubs in Southeast Asia carry the weight of history that Royal Selangor Golf Club does. Founded in 1893, it stands as one of the oldest golf institutions in the region, born during the British colonial era when Kuala Lumpur was a rapidly expanding tin-mining boomtown. The club earned its "Royal" designation — a mark of distinction shared by only a handful of courses worldwide — and has grown into one of Malaysia's most prestigious and storied golfing addresses. Its Old Course and New Course have both been refined over the decades, drawing comparisons to the great colonial clubs of Asia.
Situated close to the heart of KL, the club exists in an almost improbable pocket of green within one of Southeast Asia's most dynamic and densely built cities. The tropical climate means lush, year-round conditions, though the heat and humidity are part of the experience — this is golf in equatorial Malaysia, and the atmosphere is distinctly its own.
Royal Selangor has hosted major regional and international tournaments, cementing its reputation well beyond the country's borders. Membership is deeply coveted, and the club carries a culture of tradition and formality that feels earned rather than affected — a place where the game's history and Malaysia's own story genuinely intersect.
