Port Orange sits just south of Daytona Beach on Florida's central Atlantic coast, and Cypress Head is a public-access layout that draws steadily from both the Daytona metro and the beach towns along A1A. The course occupies terrain shaped by the cypress-lined wetlands and mature hardwoods typical of Volusia County's inland corridors — a setting that gives it considerably more visual texture than the tabletop-flat designs that dominate much of the Sunshine State.
Arthur Hills designed Cypress Head, and his characteristic approach — routing holes to work with natural contours, framing fairways with water and native vegetation rather than forcing a manufactured look — is evident throughout. The layout rewards strategic thinking off the tee, as the cypress stands and wetland carries demand positioning over raw power on several holes.
For the Daytona area, Cypress Head occupies a reliable middle ground: serious enough to satisfy low-handicappers looking for a genuine test, and accessible enough that recreational players find it enjoyable rather than punishing. It remains one of the more scenically satisfying rounds in Volusia County.
