Few stretches of English coastal golf feel quite as exposed as the Norfolk shoreline around Great Yarmouth, and Gorleston Golf Club sits squarely in that tradition. The course occupies the clifftop ground above Gorleston-on-Sea, where the North Sea horizon dominates every outward hole and the wind — rarely absent, often punishing — becomes the truest test of a player's game. This is links-adjacent territory in spirit if not always in strict classification, and it rewards those who keep the ball low and think their way around rather than simply swinging hard.
Great Yarmouth itself has a long golfing history, and Gorleston is very much part of the working fabric of the local game — a genuine community club with deep roots in this corner of East Anglia. The layout plays to a par of 71, which on a calm summer day might seem inviting, but the same holes can feel entirely different when a North Sea gale rolls in off the water.
For visitors, the appeal is real: proper seaside golf in a part of England that doesn't get the tourist attention of the Lincolnshire or Lancashire coasts, but offers the same honest, windswept challenge.
