La Dehesa occupies the upper reaches of Lo Barnechea, where Santiago's urban sprawl gives way to the foothills of the Andes. The course climbs into a landscape of scrubby native vegetation and dramatic elevation change, with the snowcapped cordillera forming a backdrop that few city courses anywhere can rival. This is Santiago's affluent northeastern corridor, and La Dehesa reflects that — a private club serving one of Chile's wealthiest communities, with the polished infrastructure and exclusivity that comes with it.
The terrain here is anything but flat, and the course uses the rolling foothills intelligently, demanding course management and rewarding players who control their ball flight in the thin, dry mountain air. The semi-arid climate keeps conditions firm and fast for much of the year, and the afternoon winds that funnel through the Andean valleys add a further layer of complexity that the scorecard simply cannot communicate.
For visiting golfers, access typically requires a reciprocal arrangement through a member or affiliated club. Those who do get on will find a course that takes full advantage of its spectacular natural setting — one of the more memorable rounds available in the Chilean capital.
