Kingman sits at roughly 3,300 feet elevation in the high desert of northwestern Arizona, where the Hualapai Mountains rise to the east and Route 66 nostalgia runs thick through the old downtown. Cerbat Cliffs takes its name from the Cerbat Range just north of town — rugged, sun-bleached ridgelines that give the course its dramatic backdrop and remind you, at every turn, that you're playing genuine Mojave Desert terrain. The elevation buys you a few extra yards of carry and keeps summer temperatures more tolerable than the Phoenix valley, which makes this a course that actually functions year-round in a region where that's not always a given.
As the city's municipal layout, Cerbat Cliffs serves the everyday golfer in Kingman — the retirees who've settled along the Old West highway corridor, the locals who play it weekly, and the road-trippers cutting across I-40 who want a round before pushing west toward Las Vegas or east toward Flagstaff.
The desert setting means errant shots encounter unforgiving scrub and rocky terrain rather than manicured rough, so course management matters more than raw power. For a municipal track in a small city, the natural scenery does a lot of the heavy lifting, and the Cerbat Range views give the round a sense of scale and place that no amount of landscaping could manufacture.
