Greensboro National sits just north of Greensboro in Summerfield, a community straddling the transition zone between the Piedmont's rolling farmland and the gentler foothills country. The course opened in 2000 and was designed by Bob Spence, playing through terrain that gives it more elevation change and visual drama than many layouts in the region. It has built a solid reputation as one of the better daily-fee options in the greater Greensboro market — the kind of course that earns repeat visits from locals who want something more interesting than flat, suburban golf.
The design makes good use of the natural topography, with holes that ask you to think about ball flight and angle of approach rather than simply reaching for driver on every tee. Tree-lined corridors and strategically placed water hazards keep scoring honest without tipping into punishment for its own sake.
Greensboro's broader golf scene benefits from a mild mid-Atlantic climate that allows a long playing season, and Summerfield's position away from the city core gives the course a quieter, more rural feel than the address might suggest.
