Few American golf clubs carry a name as immediately evocative as Crooked Stick — and the course lives up to it. Pete Dye designed it in 1964, and it stands as one of his earliest major works, a place where you can trace the DNA of a designer who would go on to reshape how Americans think about golf architecture. The routing unfolds across gently rolling Indiana terrain, featuring the railroad ties, forced carries, and angular green complexes that became Dye trademarks, though deployed here with a touch more restraint than his later, more theatrical designs.
Crooked Stick earned national recognition when it hosted the 1991 PGA Championship, the tournament that introduced a then-unknown John Daly to the world. The club has also welcomed the U.S. Women's Open and several USGA events, cementing its status as one of the Midwest's premier championship venues.
Carmel sits just north of Indianapolis in Hamilton County, one of the fastest-growing and most affluent suburban corridors in the region. Crooked Stick is a private members' club, and its combination of genuine architectural pedigree and championship history makes it a genuine landmark in American golf.
