Few Scottish golf experiences situate you quite like this one. Ross Priory sits on the southeastern shore of Loch Lomond, one of Scotland's most celebrated stretches of inland water, with the Ben Lomond massif rising across the water to the northwest. The course is the private ground of the University of Strathclyde, which owns the priory house itself — a Georgian mansion that serves as a conference and leisure facility for the university. That institutional character gives the club a distinctive, unhurried atmosphere quite different from a typical private members' club.
The layout plays across gently undulating parkland with the loch never far from view, and the relatively modest par of 70 signals a course that rewards accuracy and course management over raw power. Tree-lined fairways and the soft West of Scotland climate — expect plenty of moisture — shape the challenge as much as length does.
Alexandria, in West Dunbartonshire, sits at the southern gateway to the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. The area is perhaps best known globally as the address of the nearby Loch Lomond Golf Club, one of Scotland's premier championship venues, but Ross Priory offers something altogether more intimate and accessible on the same iconic waterway.
