Few public golf courses in America carry the civic weight of Jefferson Park. Opened in 1915 on Beacon Hill, it is one of Seattle's oldest continuously operating courses and a cornerstone of the city's municipal golf system — a place where generations of Seattleites have learned the game and returned to it across a lifetime.
The Beacon Hill site gives the course something money can't manufacture: elevation and exposure. On clear days the views stretch from the Olympic Mountains to the west across to the Cascades in the east, with Mount Rainier dominating the southern skyline. That setting alone makes a round here feel like something beyond the typical urban scramble.
At par 69, Jefferson Park plays shorter and more inventive than a regulation layout, rewarding precise iron play and smart course management over raw distance. The course has seen significant renovation work in recent years to modernize its infrastructure while preserving its deep community character. For Seattle golfers, this is less a place you discover than one you simply belong to.
