Slušovice is a small town in the Zlín Region of the Czech Republic, set among the rolling hills and forested valleys of the Moravian-Wallachian borderlands. The Derby Golf Club occupies this quietly dramatic terrain, where the natural contours of the landscape do much of the design work — fairways trace the hillsides and greens are framed by dense woodland, giving the course a genuine sense of seclusion without any artifice.
The Zlín area has its own distinct character: historically tied to the Baťa shoe empire and its modernist civic ambitions, the region blends industrious Central European energy with genuine rural beauty. Golf here feels a world away from the manicured resort circuits of Bohemia, and that contrast is part of the appeal. Derby Slušovice draws a local and regional membership rather than a tourist crowd, giving it the unhurried atmosphere of a proper club.
Rounds here reward patience and local knowledge. The hillside setting means elevation changes are a constant factor, and players who misjudge the terrain early tend to pay for it over the back nine.
