Acapulco has long been synonymous with a particular kind of mid-20th-century glamour — the cliff divers of La Quebrada, the movie stars, the salt-spray energy of the Pacific coast — and the golf here carries some of that same sun-drenched, slightly theatrical character. The course sits in one of Mexico's most storied resort cities, where the Sierra Madre del Sur mountains tumble dramatically toward Guerrero's coastline and the air is warm and thick year-round. Playing here means contending with that climate: the humidity, the occasional Pacific breeze, and a landscape that leans tropical rather than manicured.
At par 70, the layout plays shorter and tighter than a traditional championship test, rewarding precision and course management over raw distance. It suits the resort atmosphere well — this is golf meant to be enjoyed alongside everything else Acapulco offers, not a grind that sends you home exhausted.
The city itself has had a complicated recent history, but the bay remains one of the most beautiful settings in all of Mexico, and a round here still delivers a sense of place that few courses on the Pacific coast can match.
