Rosapenna Golf Course

Few stretches of linksland anywhere in the world feel as remote or as elemental as the Rosapenna peninsula, where the Atlantic doesn't so much frame the golf as consume it. The original layout here dates to 1893, laid out by Old Tom Morris, making Rosapenna one of Ireland's oldest links — a fact that carries real weight when you're standing on a fairway shaped by the same hands that touched Prestwick and Dornoch. Harry Vardon later made revisions, and Pat Ruddy overhauled and reimagined the property in the early 2000s, adding the Sandy Hills links — a second course that many regard as the more dramatic of the two, routing across massive, tumbling dunes above Sheephaven Bay.

The hotel and golf complex sits in the Rosguill peninsula of northwest Donegal, a county whose landscape operates at a scale that makes most of Ireland feel tame by comparison. The wind is not a variable here — it is the course.
