Birchwood Country Club has been a fixture of Westport's social and sporting fabric for decades, occupying the kind of rolling, wooded terrain that defines golf in Fairfield County. The club sits in one of Connecticut's wealthiest and most golf-rich corridors, where private clubs have long competed for discerning members and the standards for course conditioning tend to run exceptionally high.
The layout winds through mature deciduous forest typical of coastal New England — birch, oak, and maple framing nearly every hole — and the ground moves enough to create variety without ever feeling manufactured. Fairfield County's climate brings genuine seasonality: firm, fast conditions in late summer, spectacular fall color, and the kind of brisk spring mornings that make you work for every good score.
As a private members' club, Birchwood's appeal lies as much in its rhythms and community as in the golf itself. It's the sort of place where the course feels personal — familiar to those who belong, and largely invisible to those who don't.
