Few public courses in the densely developed inland edge of Orange County manage to carve out genuine terrain interest, but Coyote Hills sits close to the Coyote Hills area of Fullerton's rolling hillside landscape, where the ground actually moves beneath your feet. The par-70 layout signals immediately that you're not in for a traditional power-and-par-5 test — the design leans on shorter, tighter challenges, rewarding precision and course management over raw distance.
Fullerton occupies an interesting corner of Southern California golf. It's far enough inland to escape the coastal marine layer and play warmer and firmer through much of the year, which means the ground game is often in play. The surrounding hills and open space give the course a slightly more rugged, sun-baked feel than the manicured resort corridors down toward the coast.
As a public facility in a region where accessible tee times can be hard to come by, Coyote Hills draws a wide mix of players — weekend regulars, beginners getting reps in, and single-digit handicappers treating a par 70 as a scoring opportunity worth taking seriously.
