Few golf clubs in Ireland carry the kind of unbroken lineage that Kirkistown Castle does. Founded in 1902, it ranks among the oldest clubs in Ulster, and its links at Cloughey on the Ards Peninsula has been shaping the games — and testing the patience — of County Down golfers for well over a century. The layout was designed by James Braid, the five-time Open champion and one of the most prolific course architects of the early 20th century, which alone tells you something about the seriousness of the place.
