Rockland County sits at the western edge of the Hudson Valley, where the river begins its dramatic widening toward the Tappan Zee and the hills roll with a character that's unmistakably northeastern. Stony Point itself carries Revolutionary War history — the site of a famous 1779 battle — and Patriot Hills takes its name from that heritage. The terrain here is what you'd expect from this corner of New York: elevation changes, mature hardwoods, and the kind of playing corridors that demand shape and course management over raw power.
As a public facility in a densely populated suburban corridor, Patriot Hills serves a serious golfing community. Rockland and lower Orange County draw players who know the game well, and a course in this market has to earn its repeat business. The par-71 layout suggests at least one or two par-5s replaced by shorter holes, which typically rewards precision and penalizes players who rely on length alone.
Fall is when this part of the Hudson Valley earns its reputation — the hardwood canopy turns vivid and the cooler air firms up fairways in ways that flatter ball-strikers. If you're passing through the region, Patriot Hills offers a legitimate local experience rather than a resort detour.
