Gillette Ridge opened in 2004 on the site of the former Heublein corporate campus in Bloomfield, a suburb just north of Hartford. The course was designed by Brad Faxon and Billy Andrade — both Tour veterans with Connecticut roots — giving it an unusual origin: a layout conceived by players who grew up reading greens rather than drawing contour lines. The result is a modern parkland design with a feel that leans more toward the player's perspective than the architect's ego, with undulating greens and thoughtful shot angles that reward course management.
The setting in the Hartford metro area places it within Connecticut's densely competitive golf market, where the game has deep roots and the public-access tier punches well above its weight. Bloomfield itself sits in the Hartford Basin, where the landscape opens into gentle rolling terrain with mature tree lines that give the property a grounded, unhurried feel.
Gillette Ridge operates as a public facility with a reputation that draws players from well beyond the immediate suburbs — a course that plays more interestingly than its parkland category might suggest.
