Fernandina Beach sits at the northern tip of Amelia Island, a barrier island with a character distinct from Florida's more manicured resort corridors. The landscape here is shaped by maritime forest, tidal marshes, and the kind of coastal terrain that shifts with the seasons — a natural setting that gives golf courses on the island a sense of place you don't always find in the state's more developed stretches. North Hampton occupies that world, with the low-country topography and native vegetation doing real work in framing the layout.
As a private residential club community, North Hampton serves members and residents of the surrounding development, lending it the unhurried atmosphere that neighborhood golf clubs tend to carry. The course is built for repeat play — the kind of layout where knowing it matters, and where regulars develop opinions about specific holes and prevailing wind directions that visitors simply don't have yet.
Amelia Island has a legitimate golf identity, with several courses in the area drawing both serious players and vacationers. North Hampton offers a quieter counterpart to the island's resort options — less spectacle, more familiarity.
