Mauritius earns its reputation as one of the Indian Ocean's premier golf destinations, and the island's southwest corner — where Savanne District stretches toward dramatic basalt cliffs and sugar-cane fields rolling down to the sea — offers some of its most striking scenery. Heritage Golf Course sits within the Heritage Resorts estate on this rugged southern coast, a layout that makes full use of one of the island's most visually compelling landscapes.
The course was designed by Peter Matkovich, the South African architect responsible for several acclaimed layouts across sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian Ocean islands. Routing across volcanic terrain with the Indian Ocean as a constant visual presence, the design blends natural lava outcroppings, indigenous vegetation, and elevation changes that give the round genuine variety and bite. Trade winds off the ocean are a dependable factor, turning straightforward-looking holes into tests of patience and shot-shaping.
As part of a luxury resort complex that includes the Heritage Le Telfair and Shanti Maurice properties, the course draws an international resort crowd alongside resident golfers — a setting where the quality of the surrounding experience matches the ambition of the golf itself.
