Few courses in England demand as much honest self-assessment from a golfer as Bridport and West Dorset. Perched on the clifftops above West Bay, the layout occupies terrain that is genuinely dramatic — exposed to the full force of Channel winds and sitting alongside some of the most striking coastal scenery in southern England. The Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, forms the backdrop, and on a clear day the views across Chesil Beach and the surrounding hills are as distracting as any bunker.
The course plays across rolling downland typical of this stretch of Dorset, where the turf is firm and fast and the wind is a permanent, unpredictable factor regardless of the season. Bridport itself is a small market town with genuine character — unhurried, unpretentious, and a long way from the manicured resort experience.
This is golf in the older English tradition: natural ground, real weather, and a layout that rewards local knowledge and a creative short game over raw power.
