Few clubs in the north of England carry the quiet authority of Manchester Golf Club. Founded in 1882, it ranks among the oldest clubs in the region and holds a legitimate place in the early history of English golf, a period when the game was spreading south from Scotland and establishing its first permanent footholds in the industrial heartland.
