Gulf Shores Country Club occupies a stretch of coastal Alabama that most visitors associate with sugar-white beaches and saltwater rather than fairways — which makes discovering a full 18-hole layout here something of a pleasant surprise. Gulf Shores sits at the western tip of a barrier island where the Gulf of Mexico meets Mobile Bay, and the flat, low-lying terrain, coastal pines, and salt air give the course a character that's a long way from the manicured resort corridors of, say, Myrtle Beach or Hilton Head.

Par 71 layouts often play quicker and more strategic than a full par 72, rewarding shot placement over raw length.
