Shore Gate Golf Club sits in Ocean View, a small community in Cape May County at the southern tip of New Jersey. This corner of the Shore State has a golf identity all its own — the flat, sandy terrain and coastal scrub that define the Jersey Cape create conditions genuinely suited to links-influenced design, where wind off the Atlantic becomes as much a factor as any bunker or water hazard.
Shore Gate opened in 2001 and was designed by Ron Forse and Jim Urbina, a pairing responsible for several well-regarded public-access courses in the mid-Atlantic region. The layout earned a strong reputation quickly among New Jersey golfers, drawing favorable comparisons to British heathland and links courses — a natural fit given the sandy soil, native grasses, and wide corridors that allow the ground game to work alongside the aerial one.
For a public course in a beach-town market that could easily settle for resort mediocrity, Shore Gate plays with genuine ambition. The routing rewards creativity and course management, and the surroundings offer the quiet, windswept character that makes southern Jersey golf feel a world apart from the courses crowding the northern suburbs.
