Sidney sits in the Nebraska Panhandle, where the High Plains roll toward the Wyoming border and the landscape opens into wide skies and dry, wind-scoured grassland. It's a corner of the state that doesn't see a lot of golf tourism, but the region has its own rugged character — short summers, persistent breezes, and terrain that makes you feel genuinely far from anywhere.
Hillside is the community's public course, the kind of place that serves as the local game's backbone — where juniors learn to play, weekend competitions run on handicap, and the same faces show up Saturday morning year after year. Municipal courses in small High Plains towns tend to reward shot-making over power, and the ever-present Nebraska wind turns a straightforward par 72 into something more interesting than the card might suggest.
Sidney itself is probably best known as the longtime home of Cabela's outdoor retail empire, which gives the town a sporting, outdoors-minded identity that fits a golf course just fine.
