Oaxaca is one of Mexico's most culturally rich states — a highland region of mountain valleys, ancient Zapotec ruins, and a culinary tradition that draws travelers from around the world. Golf here exists well outside the resort corridors of Los Cabos or the Riviera Maya, which means Vista Hermosa occupies a genuinely uncommon position: a full 18-hole layout serving a city better known for mole negro and mezcal than fairways and greens.
At par 70, the course plays as a shorter, more strategic track than a pure power test — a design philosophy that tends to reward shot-making and course management over raw distance. The mountainous terrain of the Central Valleys almost certainly brings elevation change into play, and Oaxaca's temperate highland climate, sitting above 5,000 feet, keeps conditions relatively mild year-round compared to the beach destinations that dominate Mexican golf tourism.
For visiting golfers, the real draw is context. A round here pairs naturally with everything that makes Oaxaca worth the trip — the zócalo, the markets, Monte Albán on the hill just outside the city — making Vista Hermosa less a destination course and more an extension of the place itself.
