Folkestone sits at one of England's most storied coastal edges, where the chalk downs of Kent tumble toward the English Channel and the French coastline is visible on a clear day. The Leas takes its name from the famous clifftop promenade that defines this part of town — a Victorian-era esplanade that once drew well-heeled visitors from London by rail, and still gives the area its particular character: breezy, open, with long views over grey-green water.
Downland golf in Kent tends to reward shotmaking over power. The turf drains quickly on chalk-based ground, running firm and fast through summer, and the wind off the Channel is rarely absent — shifting a comfortable approach into something that demands real club selection.
