Killermont

Few clubs in Scottish golf carry the institutional weight of Killermont. Home to the Western Gailes-affiliated Glasgow Golf Club — one of the oldest golf clubs in the world, founded in 1787 — Killermont has served as the club's inland base since the late 19th century, sitting on the northern fringes of Glasgow in Bearsden. The parkland layout occupies grounds that were once part of a grand estate, and the clubhouse retains much of that period character, giving the place a sense of occasion that goes well beyond a typical club visit.

James Braid, the five-time Open Champion turned prolific course architect, shaped the layout into what members play today — a tightly wooded, strategically demanding parkland test where accuracy off the tee matters considerably more than raw distance.

Glasgow's golf culture is serious and deep-rooted, and Killermont sits near its centre of gravity. This is a private members' club in the traditional sense: understated, proud of its history, and not especially interested in announcing itself to the world.
