The Jura Golf e.V. Hilzhofen course occupies a stretch of the Franconian Jura, the limestone upland that runs through the heart of Bavaria between Nuremberg and Regensburg. This is quintessentially Altmühltal country — a landscape of pale rock outcroppings, scattered forest, and open meadow that gives the course a natural, unhurried character quite distinct from the manicured parkland courses of larger German cities. The village of Pilsach sits within the Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz district, a region better known for brewing tradition and Romanesque churches than for golf, which lends the club a certain locals-first authenticity.
As a member-owned Verein — a registered golf club in the German tradition — Jura Golf operates with the ethos of a genuine community club rather than a commercial venue. That typically means a welcoming atmosphere for visiting golfers, a course shaped practically around its terrain rather than imposed upon it, and the kind of unpretentious clubhouse culture that keeps regulars coming back year after year.
The Jura plateau's thin soils and rocky subsoil tend to produce firm, fast-draining turf even after rain, a playing surface that rewards accurate ball-striking and ground-game thinking over brute power.
