Southbury sits in the Pomperaug River valley of western Connecticut, where the Housatonic highlands give way to rolling farmland and dense second-growth forest. It's classic New England golf country — firm turf in late summer, brilliant foliage conditions in September and October, and terrain that tends to reward creativity off the tee over raw distance.
Silo Point Country Club carries its agricultural roots right in its name, and the layout reads like many of the best private clubs in this corner of Connecticut: a par 71 that trades length for contour, asking members to manage elevation changes and tree-lined corridors rather than simply overpower the course. Private clubs in this part of the state tend to develop a strong sense of identity around their membership culture — golf here is often more about the Saturday morning game and the relationships built over decades than any headline tournament.
Western Connecticut is genuinely underappreciated golf territory. Courses like this one draw a loyal regional following, offering a quieter alternative to the busier resort corridors of the shoreline or the Berkshire foothills just to the north.
