Few Las Vegas–area courses commit as fully to a theme as Chimera Golf Club in Henderson. Designed by Ted Robinson Jr. and opened in 2002, the course leans hard into its mythological namesake — the fire-breathing creature of Greek legend — with dramatic lava rock outcroppings, volcanic-looking mounding, and bold visual contrasts between dark stone and the bright green turf cut from the Mojave Desert floor. It's a deliberately theatrical design, and Henderson's sun-bleached terrain gives Robinson the raw material to make it feel genuinely otherworldly rather than just decorative.
Henderson sits on the southeastern edge of the Las Vegas Valley, and the elevation changes across the community's rolling desert topography give Chimera real vertical variety — a commodity not every Strip-adjacent course can claim. The Santa Rosa Mountains form a backdrop that reinforces the landscape's natural drama without any help from the design team.
