Murcar Links

Few Scottish links courses can claim the raw, elemental exposure that Murcar delivers. Sitting on the North Sea coast just north of Aberdeen, the course occupies a stretch of genuine duneland where the wind is rarely an afterthought — it is, more often, the governing force of every round. Murcar was laid out in 1909 by Archie Simpson, the Aberdeen-born professional who also had a hand in shaping several other links in the northeast, and the design makes honest use of the natural terrain: tumbling fairways, deep rough-edged hollows, and greens that reward ground game as much as anything aerial.

The course sits virtually shoulder-to-shoulder with Royal Aberdeen (Balgownie), one of Scotland's most celebrated links, which tells you something about the quality of the duneland corridor this stretch of Aberdeenshire coastline has produced.

Murcar is a members' club with a strong local following, but it welcomes visitors and represents one of the more authentic links experiences available in the northeast — serious, exposed, and thoroughly Scottish in character.
