Few courses in England carry quite the same windswept, elemental character as Warren. Perched on a narrow strip of linksland between the Exe estuary and the sea at Dawlish, it occupies one of the more unusual pieces of golfing terrain in the southwest — a spit of ground where tidal water, dune grass, and salt air converge to create conditions that change by the hour. It is a proper links in the truest sense, shaped by the land rather than imposed upon it.
Par 69 signals a shorter, tighter test, and at Warren that means precision off the tee matters far more than distance. The course rewards low runners, bump-and-run approaches, and the kind of creative shot-making that inland courses rarely demand. Wind off the estuary can turn modest-looking holes into genuine problems in an instant.
Dawlish itself sits on Devon's red-cliffed Jurassic Coast, a stretch of English coastline with real drama and texture. Warren is the sort of unpretentious, members-driven club that has been quietly testing local golfers for generations — no fuss, no fanfare, just good, honest links golf.
