Bombay Presidency Golf Club(BPGC)

Few golf clubs in Asia carry the institutional weight of the Bombay Presidency Golf Club. Founded in 1842, it is one of the oldest golf clubs in the world outside the British Isles, predating most of the celebrated courses in the United States by half a century. The club traces its origins to the British colonial administration, and its very name preserves that history — the Bombay Presidency being the administrative territory governed from this city during the Raj. That heritage gives BPGC a gravitas that few courses anywhere can claim.

The course itself sits within Chembur, in the eastern suburbs of Mumbai, on land that feels remarkably removed from one of the world's most densely populated cities. The layout winds through mature trees and relatively open fairways, rewarding controlled ball-striking over power in the humid, coastal conditions that Mumbai's climate delivers for much of the year.

BPGC has long served as the heartbeat of competitive golf in western India, hosting national amateur championships and shaping generations of Indian golfers. Membership is deeply coveted, and the club maintains a genuine members' culture — history worn comfortably, not displayed as decoration.
