Björkhagens Golfklubb sits in Nacka, one of the municipalities directly east of central Stockholm where the city gives way to the classic Swedish archipelago landscape — granite outcrops, birch and pine forest, and the fractured coastline of Lake Mälaren's eastern reaches. The club takes its name from the birch groves ("björkhagen" means birch grove in Swedish) that characterize this part of greater Stockholm, and the setting delivers exactly that: a wooded, intimate layout where trees frame almost every hole and the sense of enclosure is part of the course's personality.
Nacka is well established on the Stockholm golf map, sitting alongside several other clubs in a corridor of municipal and semi-private courses that serve the city's eastern suburbs. Björkhagens is a members' club in the Swedish tradition — community-oriented, unpretentious, and built around giving everyday golfers a proper home course rather than staging championships.
As a shorter layout winding through forested terrain, the course rewards accuracy over power. Stockholm's long summer days mean rounds well into the evening during June and July, which is frankly one of Scandinavia's great simple pleasures.
