Moranbah Golf Club

Moranbah sits deep in the Bowen Basin, the coal-rich heart of central Queensland, about 200 kilometres southwest of Mackay. It's a company town in the truest sense — purpose-built in the early 1970s to house workers for the nearby open-cut mines — and the golf club carries that same blue-collar, community-first character. Out here, the course serves as a genuine social hub for a town that knows how to make its own entertainment, far from the nearest city.

Central Queensland golf tends to mean wide open spaces, hard fairways baked by a subtropical sun, and the kind of rough that punishes wayward shots with unforgiving scrub and red dirt. Expect a flat to gently undulating layout shaped by the landscape rather than heavy earthworks, where local knowledge of the wind and firm ground conditions matters as much as length off the tee.
