St Austell Golf Club has served the local community since 1910, making it one of Cornwall's longer-standing clubs. The course sits on the outskirts of its namesake town, historically the commercial heart of the clay-mining industry that shaped much of mid-Cornwall's landscape — and that industrial heritage gives the surrounding countryside an oddly dramatic, almost lunar quality in places, with the white spoil tips of the china clay works visible on the horizon.
The layout plays across classic Cornish heathland and parkland terrain, where the moorland edge meets managed turf and the Atlantic climate keeps conditions unpredictable year-round. Par 69 courses of this type tend to reward precision and local knowledge over raw power — shorter overall, but typically with enough tight driving corridors, variable winds, and tricky greens to keep scoring honest.
For visiting golfers, St Austell offers a genuine taste of everyday Cornish golf: no resort pretension, just a well-established members' club rooted in its community and an honest test of the game.
