Few clubs in the New York metropolitan area carry as much architectural history as Fenway Golf Club. The course was designed by Devereux Emmet, one of the early American masters of course design, and opened in 1924. Emmet's work — he also shaped Garden City Golf Club and Congressional Country Club — is marked by strategic bunkering, natural use of terrain, and holes that reward thoughtful shotmaking over raw power. Fenway's par-70 layout reflects that philosophy: shorter in total length than a modern championship test, but demanding in ways that catch the careless player off guard.
White Plains sits in Westchester County, one of the most storied golf corridors in the United States. The county has produced or hosted more notable clubs per square mile than almost anywhere else in the country, and Fenway holds its own in that distinguished company as a private members' club with a strong sense of tradition and community.
Playing Fenway means stepping into a specific strain of early-20th-century American golf design — one where the land shaped the routing, not the other way around.
