Few courses in the Hudson Valley carry a name with quite this much historical weight. Kinderhook — the village just down the road — was the birthplace of Martin Van Buren, the 8th President of the United States, and the area's Dutch colonial roots run deep. Valatie sits in Columbia County, where rolling farmland gives way to gentle ridgelines and the kind of unhurried rural character that feels increasingly rare this close to Albany and the Capital Region.
Olde Kinderhook is a resort-style layout built around a real estate and lodging development, which means it was designed with presentation in mind — wide corridors, maintained conditions, and an experience calibrated for visiting golfers as much as regulars. The course works with the natural contours of the land rather than fighting them, and the region's mix of hardwoods and open meadow gives it a distinctly Northeastern feel through the seasons.
Fall is the obvious draw here. Columbia County in October is legitimately spectacular, and playing a par 72 against that backdrop of turning maples and oaks is the kind of thing that makes a round memorable regardless of what you shoot.
