Borrowdale Brooke Golf Club sits within one of Harare's most affluent residential enclaves, the Borrowdale Brooke estate in the northern suburbs — a gated community of large homes, manicured gardens, and the kind of ordered calm that sets it apart from the bustle of the city beyond its walls. The course is very much an estate course in character: private, well-maintained, and oriented toward the community it serves rather than the wider golfing public.
Harare itself sits at roughly 1,500 metres above sea level on the Highveld plateau, which gives the city a mild, almost spring-like climate for much of the year. That altitude means the ball travels noticeably farther than at sea level — a factor any visiting golfer will want to account for — and the dry season brings firm, fast conditions that reward a ground game. The surrounding landscape is open savanna highveld, with msasa and acacia trees giving the area its distinctive character.
Zimbabwe has a genuine and proud golf tradition, having produced world-class professionals and maintained a culture of serious club golf through decades of hardship. Playing in Harare connects you to that resilient scene.
