Few clubs in Lombardy carry quite the pedigree of Golf Club Carimate. Founded in 1962 and designed by John Harris, the British architect responsible for several celebrated layouts across continental Europe, the course occupies the grounds of a 16th-century castle estate — the Castello di Carimate — lending it a sense of history that most courses simply cannot manufacture. Harris routed the holes through mature woodland and open parkland, producing a layout that rewards thoughtful positioning over raw power, a character it has maintained across more than 6 decades of play.
Carimate sits roughly 25 kilometers north of Milan, in the Brianza district of Como province — a quietly prosperous belt of lakes, hills, and Renaissance villas that has long attracted the region's golf community. The club has historically served as one of northern Italy's more distinguished private venues, hosting Italian Golf Federation events and maintaining a reputation well above the average provincial club.
With par set at 71, the course leans on precision and course management rather than length. The wooded corridors demand accuracy off the tee, and the variety of the routing — open holes contrasting with tighter tree-lined stretches — gives it an engaging rhythm that holds up across many rounds.
