Few English parkland courses enjoy a setting quite like this one. Ashridge sits within the Ashridge Estate, a vast swathe of National Trust woodland straddling the Hertfordshire–Buckinghamshire border, where ancient beech and oak have shaped the character of the layout for decades. The club was founded in 1932 and the course was designed by Harry Colt, one of the most revered architects in the history of British golf — the man behind Sunningdale's New Course, Wentworth's West, and countless other classics. His hallmarks are here: subtle, thought-provoking routing through mature trees, natural ground movement rewarded by those who shape their shots, and greens that ask real questions without resorting to artifice.
The estate itself has a grandeur that makes the round feel genuinely special. Deer are a common sight, and the canopy of the surrounding woodland shifts beautifully through the seasons.
Ashridge is a private members' club, but it maintains a welcoming reputation for visitors and sits comfortably among Hertfordshire's most respected courses — a Colt design in a setting that earns its standing without needing to announce it.
