Few courses in the world offer the kind of confrontation with raw geography that Quivira delivers. Designed by Jack Nicklaus and opened in 2014, it occupies a dramatic stretch of the Baja California Sur coastline where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez — a setting so visually overwhelming that first-time players have been known to lose their focus entirely before they've finished the opening hole. Nicklaus routed the course through volcanic rock formations and along crumbling clifftops, with multiple holes playing directly above the surf. It has quickly earned recognition among the finest resort courses in Latin America and regularly appears on continental and world rankings.
Cabo San Lucas built its golf reputation on desert-meets-ocean scenery, but Quivira pushes that premise further than most. The Pacific side of the cape is wilder and more exposed than the calmer Cortez side, and the course reflects that — wind is a genuine factor, and the terrain is never gentle.
This is resort golf operating at an ambitious level. Quivira sits within the Pueblo Bonito resort development, offering the full destination experience, but the course itself earns its reputation on design merit alone.
