Dunham Forest Golf and Country Club sits in the Cheshire countryside just south of Altrincham, occupying grounds that feel genuinely removed from the suburban sprawl of Greater Manchester despite being only a short drive from the city. The club carries the kind of quiet prestige that characterizes the better private members' clubs of the northwest England corridor — well-established, well-maintained, and unapologetically members-first in its culture and pace.
The course plays through mature woodland, and the forest setting that gives the club its name is very much a living part of the challenge. Tree-lined fairways demand accuracy off the tee, and the canopy creates distinct seasonal changes — spring blossom and autumn colour making it one of those layouts that rewards regular visits across the year. The par-72 layout has enough length to test stronger players without overwhelming those who simply want a serious, well-conditioned round in pleasant surroundings.
